We are so excited to share “Choosing Joy,” our next installment of the #WalkWithPurpose series in partnership with American Cancer Society®. This is the incredibly inspiring story of Momoko and David Myre, and their courageous decision to choose joy when their then 18-month-old daughter Isaline was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
At the time of diagnosis, there were less than a dozen cases reported and no established treatment protocol. But Momoko and David dove headfirst into treatment and were determined Isa would survive this. As Momoko recalled, “obviously there’s no playbook for this. No one tells you how you’re supposed to deal with it. But we just took our cues from our daughter.”
The Myres also took cues from Sheryl Sandberg’s book Option B. “Option A is not available. so let's just kick the shit out of Option B” became the Myre family mantra as caregivers and cancer warriors.
It is inevitable that we will go through hard times and now more than ever the world seems full of uncertainty. But as we learn from the Myres, “we can drown in the unknown, but…we choose to take the perspective that life is short, and we really want…to choose joy.”
